We recommend using one and a half tablespoons of regular grind coffee in a mesh non-paper filter per six ounces of pure water. The SCAA (Specialty Coffee Association of America) recommends two tablespoons per six ounces of pure water. It is importent to brew at one of these ratios to keep from over extraction and causing bitterness. If the coffee is too strong you can add hot water to the brewed coffee.
For French Press (our preferred method) add one and a half tablespoons of coarse ground coffee in the press pot per six ounces of 200 degree F water. A simple way to heat the water to near optimal temperature is to heat it to boiling in a microwave safe cup in the microwave, then let it stop boiling and wait about fifteen seconds and pour over the grounds. Let it set a minute and swirl till the grounds sink. After it sits another three minutes you can start plunging two or three times then pour into your cup with the plunger pushed all the way down.
For espresso we recommend buying whole bean and grinding at home. Use as fine a grind as doesn't plug your portafilter. We get espresso stand quality on our home pump driven DeLonghi espresso machine. Follow the instructions in your owners manual. For more information and recipes you can go to youtube.com.
